Welcome Viking Family to your Counseling Corner!
The school counselors encourage the students to visit the center before school, during nutrition break, at lunch, or after school. If the student wishes to speak with the counselor during a class period, the student will first report to class and get a note from the teacher to go to the counseling center.
School counselors help guide and prepare students in the areas of academics, college and career, and personal well-being.
Counseling services offered at Mar Vista Academy include, but are not limited to, providing:
- All students with a plan leading to promotion.
- Referrals to community resources for psychological counseling and substance abuse programs as determined to be appropriate.

- Classroom presentations on promotion and graduation requirements.
- Assistance in selecting courses related to graduation and post-secondary learning.

Information that a student shares with a counselor is by law confidential – the counselor cannot share that information without the student’s permission with anyone else. The only exception to this is if the student’s health, safety or welfare is in danger or someone else is in danger.
We strongly believe in the importance of our partnership with parents/guardians, staff, and the community, for the success. Our hope is that MVA students will leave our school adopting the MVA Viking traits—Versatile, Inquisitive, Kind, Interactive, Never Give Up, Gutsy, Synergetic and are prepared for future success in high school and post-secondary education.
Sincerely,
Your MVA Counselors
Mr. Matson and Ms. Schmerbauch
